Any of you out there that live in the Houston metro area, would appreciate your insights on where to go, or possibly not go to rebuild my ‘68 400 motor.

Hoping for a standard bore rebuild, nothing exotic, little bit of cam, mild work on the factory C heads.

I've had a few engines built by Jeff at Custom Automotive Machine on Pinemont. He's a super guy, very detail oriented, but I heard he may be winding down his business to retire. I also interviewed and was impressed with Westside Performance on Emnora as well as Faerman Racing Engines, also on Pinemont. Faerman was reluctant to work up a budget for my stroker build which made me uneasy to not have target price, but he does have a dyno in house, and the other builders I've mentioned used Faerman's dyno as they don't have their own.
I would definitely interview several builders and discuss your goals with them before handing over a deposit. There really is no reason these guys can't work up a price to build your engine up front. I hope this helps get you started on your search.

I have used Stroggins on Mcgowen @ 288. Excellent work is done by them. They will even come pick then engine up from you and also bring it back once its done.
