I know an old question...I have what appears to be on my 400 G block on the left front pad: J844. Does this make sense? It is possible I am reading it wrong. Thanks again for the help!
That is the right location, and I believe I can see some of the numbers. You'll need to take some sandpaper or something to scrap the paint off and verify if the last digits match your vin. Here's an old thread that has examples of numbers stamped and cast into engines.
