Looks like critter damage to me!
If there is not much rust, the redo will be easy (just costly and worth it!)
Been there done that!

Great 'before' shots. Now to get a fixin'...

I cannot say anything about painting plastic parts (did not adhere weill), but there is another thread that recently discussed it. I think my issue was not enough prep.

What a mess! X2 on the project idea. Star yourself a thread and post lots of pics; before, during, after. It will be cool.

My rear seat did not look much different. It was not that big a deal to repair. The hardest part was getting rid of the mouse **** smell.

An easy project, just take your time. You have a car that looks to have great potential.

WOW!!!!!!!

Well the good news is you started, now the catch is to finish. I redid mine and check my thread "interior gutted with questions" I redyed all my plastic parts and the dash, console, visors, custon kick panels, seat backs and aprons and had zero issues. the key is the prep work. I soaked mine in hot water, scrubbed with dawn, rewashed dried, cleaned again with cleaner, used adhesion promoter and then sprayed the SEM and it came out great. just my 2 cents....sand blast all your seat frames. Adds money I know but removes the rust and musty smell to prevent the new interior from smelling. Replace the carpet, sound deadner and firewall and under dash insulation, seat foam covers and anything else. A lot of work but well worth it to get in and not have any smells. If you have any questions feel free to PM me after you check out the thread....

Good luck and cant wait to see the progress

Thanks,

Just make sure not to cut corners as the devil is in the details and so is the smell clean the floors, belts and all of that as well. I even removed the seam sealer to make sure it was all done. Rob (Lady72nRob71) has a great thread on the interior as well. His is alot more informative and take the time to give you more of the how to and mine are just pictures....Good luck and get it done

I also used SEM on my dash it came out great. As for the seats. I sand blasted them and then primered and painted. I used black paint because of the parts of the seat that shows when the new covers were installed.

Try cleaning the floor very well and then use some pet odor neutralizer, let sit, then clean again. Leave a couple boxes of baking soda inside when it is sitting closed up. Hopefully this will help.

Use the adhesion promoter, whether you think you need it or not. When reading the datasheet, it seemed as if i did not need it. WRONG!
Oh well, I am not redoing it - just have to be careful with it...

Check out my "Interior Makeover" thread and see if you can find any valuable tidbits there. See if you get carried away like I did.

Rob, I do not think it was carried away, rather it was just good detailed work that maybe you did not plan on. Without your project and thread a lot of us may not have done ours. Besides you set the bar for us to try to keep up with

Another option for spraying the dash and various vinyl interior pieces is Krylon Fusion spray paint. It is available at the hardware store, the only problem with this is that it isn't an "original" color.

Make sure you use flat paint on the dash, if you use anything shiny you won't be able to see through the reflection from the top of the dash in the windshield when you're driving.

I use a gray scotchbrite and lightly knock some of the shine off the textured plastic parts to give them a little more tooth before paint.
Always use adhesion promoter, can't hurt, plus I found five spray cans of the Duplcolor stuff in THE Wal-Mart clearance section for 50 cent each so I have plenty.

I noticed the pipe wrench in the one pic, what do you take apart in the interior with that?
I use a pipe wrench for PC, radio and TV repair.

Don't buy anything else except SEM paints.
I've tried a few others, and none are as good as SEM which is the most recommended brand.
They have a pliable texture designed for interior components.
You can get the satin clear coat to seal it up as well.

I'd love to know how the HELL you got your dash off......I couldn't get to my bolts at all.

Personally, I'd get a black carpet - grey and black look rich to me!
As far as the smell, use Odo-ban! We get ours at Sam's Club, and it gets dog smell out of cement, so it should work well on a car interior!
Ditto on replacing the seam sealer.
I've even used brush-on rusteoleum or por-15 on the floor, after wire-brushing it!
'just in case'!
