67 Toronado at the yard

Here we go again. Are the wheels worth saving? There are actually 5. Ones in the car. 2 hub caps may be missing? The doors seem very solid too. It even still has the hideaway head lights though it looks like it would be quite a job to remove them. Nice bumpers too. Any interest in these parts? email me at w70442@hotmail.com

Pics of the 5th wheel, front and rear. Front bumper is dented but back looks decent. Also included a pic of the headlight vacuum box?

Might take you a little time to move them, but Toronado chrome wheels will sell if priced right and not rashed up.

There is one 66 cap and the other two are 67-70. The wheels are 66-67 drum brake only. They will not fit disc brakes.

Check the taillight panel close. If it's good and not badly pitted those are in demand.

Check with the folks at toronado.org . They'll have a good handle on demand and pricing for this stuff.

The headlight actuators are in demand - I would at least pull the vac motors and controllers (if they look good). A couple guys here were looking for some a while back.
Wheel covers look good enough to salvage - they will sell for sure...

Quite sad to see it there in that good a shape.

67 Toronado

Well, by golly, I don't need the wheels, but I am in search of a gas tank for my 67 Toronado and if anyone has one, I'm interested. If there is someone interested in a 66 Toro Delux Complete car, very nice, what kind of value does it have? It is smooth, no rust, not even killed by the sun, looks like been sitting for a while. I don't want to buy a whole car just to get a tank. Thank you Gentlemen for your help! tomsterlv@yahoo.com ... I am in Las Vegas

Toro68, I pulled the head light switch and the **** came out in my hand. I put it back in and it turns the rheostat just fine but the shaft won't catch inside in order to "pull" the switch into the on position and the **** just comes out. May be something simple like a rusted spring inside. ??? I didn't take the switch but know where it is if you want it.

Rob,
I pulled the bellows/actuators and held my finger over the vacuum port while pushing the rod in and out and never felt any pressure or suction so I think the bellows/diaphrams are shot in both of them. Let me know if that's not a good way to test them.

Tom,
The first thing they do at this yard is punch a hole in the gas tank to drain it. I doubt you do but let me know if you're really hard up for it and still want it.

looking for a gas tank for a 67 Toronado

Well, I would be interested, depending on how big the hole is. My tank is rotted out....I guess these tanks rot out next to the exhaust resonators. If you are able to inspect the tank to see if it was any good to start with, before they put the hole in it, that would be good information...Thank you so much! Tom tomsterlv@yahoo.com

Over the past 6 or so years I've dismantled three 1966-67 Toros. The chrome trim at the front of the fenders, just behind the bumper is always in demand. Its common for that to be broken if there's any kind of impact to the bumper and it's not being repoped. Also the spare tire and jack hold down hardware, I put a set of that on ebay last year and it was very popular. In your picture of the headlight vacuum tank, there's a small plastic manifold with lots of hoses going into it. Thats another item that breaks easy and is hard to find. Does the car have vacuum door locks? My last set went for over $250 three years ago. Seat belts should have the carriage buckles, even if the webbing is bad the buckles are in demand. The trunk release in the glove box, and the trunk light if easy to get have parts that interchange with A-bodies. If the engine is there snag the air cleaner either the dual snorkle or the CCC one. Also check for more rare options such as the early electronic ignition, I found one of those on a 1967 Toro and it's got a red coil, special distributor and a box for the computer(?) behind the headlights. If I remember right you said you didn't have much storage space. Thats a shame as the motor has big valve heads, forged steel crank and the toro pan which are all nice parts. I hope your able to salvage some good parts and then able to flip them and make it worth your time!

I am glad I saw this thread as it answers some of my questions. I just looked at a 67 Toro yesterday I am thinking about buying that looked to be much nicer than the one that started this thread and looked very complete. I can get it for a pretty good price so I think I will be going back to get it. It is also gold.

Tom,
It might be a few days but I'll get you some pics of the tank. As I recall, it was cut or torn about 4 inches in a half circle.

2blu,
Thank you very much for the heads up on the sought after parts. That's exactly the kind of info I need. I did get the little vacuum manifold you mentioned for the head lights. Can you describe what you mean by carriage buckles on the seat belts? Air cleaner and carb were gone.

Thanks again guys,
Randy

Good morning Randy
I was talking about the seat belts with the carriage emblem in the release button. Here's a set of restored ones that sold on ebay so this may be top dollar, but the demand is there for even the buckles if the webbing is rotten.

Not wanting to highjack the thread, so if you have more questions oldsguybry send me a PM

Yes the seat belts are in demand. If you have the time and can wash the webbing if its not rotten, then clean the buckles and chrome the best you can that would increase their value and make them easier to sell. John

They almost sound bad. However I like to put a clean length of hose on them and SUCK!!
If they hold the vacuum and move, then they are good. If you just suck air, they are bad.

Yes, very good info to know.

I stumbled upon a 67 toro a week ago and wondered the same thing about what parts are in demand.

Thanks for the post Randy!

Rocketray,

Yes, the 5 wheels are available. I haven't even had a chance to take them out of my Durango yet to clean them up. There were only 2 trim rings though they looked nice and 3 center hubcaps. I recall those had some dings or scuffs in a couple places. I was also told that one was a 67 and the other two were 68-70. I dunno...? I'll clean them up and get some pics asap.
They still have the tires on them so, if you need the wheels shipped, I'll have to get them removed(unless you want them). If you're local to Louisville, KY, you can pick them up.
Please email me at w70442@hotmail.com so we don't clutter up the thread.

By the way, I got the head light switch and the trunk release switch. As I mentioned before, the head light switch shaft doesn't catch in the detent but goes in and out easily and turns the rheostat. May be something simple inside. Someone said these were hard to come by so I thought it might be worth saving. Anyway, they're available.

Thanks Rob,

Thanks Rob, I may try that when I go back.

Tomsterlv,
I checked the gas tank, Not only did they cut it in two places to drain it, they apparently lifted the car at the tank and crushed it. Sorry.

2blu,
No sign of any seat belts.

I checked the tag on the driver's side of the trans and couldn't really read it. Any paint that was on it is gone and I think the OM might have been painted on instead of being stamped into the metal. Is that correct? Or was the OM stamped into the plate?

Are the drainage tubes in the trunk sought after? They looked pretty good and I would think are pretty unique to the car.

How about the louvered sheet metal piece between the rear window and the trunk lid? Any one need one of those?

Oh, the code on the engine block was 389244D and the letter on the head was C. I haven't checked the codes but it sounds more like 455 numbers. I know those C heads were on 455's. Again, the engine is painted black. Is that the original color? Kinda doubt it.

Thanks again for all your help,
Randy

Hmmm. Ok. Pete (boldsmobile) said to look for 381917A and the letter A on the heads. ??? Did the w34 have a different engine than a standard Toro maybe? It's definitely been painted black.

A heads are 65 425/400 heads. 66 BB heads are B heads and C heads on 67 to 69 non W30 BB engines. A D block for sure is a 425

That's weird. I thought he was asking about the Toro engine. Ironically, there is a 65 Starfire at the same yard with what I think is a red 425 in it. May still have what he wants......We'll see.
Thanks,
Randy
