Paint and body choices

So Not even close to doing a Resto like Pauls 70 w30.
But makin a driver.
I am in Tucson AZ
The one guy I trust in Tucson that had painted a 70 Road runner for $8000 about 5 years ago wants 15-18k to fix lower fenders and paint my car. Most likely 15k is all i would pay him.

He does it in about 8 weeks. Very talented guy, worked at a high end shop here in town for years. Now has a booth at his house for about 10 years now.

All my other cars were painted in NY from a guy Alex he has a reg body shop also in about 8 weeks to do the job. Alex wants $9000. Plus ship there and back $3500 so about $12,500
Before i left NY about 8 years ago he did my cara for $5000 He Does a strip and paint and weld any patches needed. Here are a few before and after pics of the cars he did.
cliff did the Road runner but since it had orig paint he used it as a base did not strip it. Alex did the buick and all the 442’s/Cutlass cars. sry no before pic on the buick. It was black i out it back to the orig color.

I would look for a couple other local shops. If a guy in New York will do it for $9,000, there has to be a shop much closer that will do it for near that price. I think you can expect at least $10,000.

I would be reluctant to spend that kind of money paying a guy to paint my classic car in a paint booth in his backyard. Sounds sketchy.

x2 on pricing local shops

I've seen great paint jobs executed in backyard shops, and without paint booth equipment that yielded fantastic results. In my opinion, the outcome is more dependent on the preparation, the painter's skills, and their knowledge of the paint materials being utilized.

I wouldn't hesitate to spray a car in my yard without a booth. I'm not going to pay someone else big bucks to do the same though.
