(1970 olds regency 98 455) Need help finding a compatible Air cleaner

I can't seem to find a compatible air cleaner that's either original or looks and functions as original, the car is in an autogallery so it needs to look OEM. The car has the 455 engine and the air cleaner needs to be the factory 5 1/8" size. I've looked on ebay and tons of other sites with no success, there appears to be delta 88 air cleaners but the carb insert diameter is always 3 1/8" which isn't compatible.

any ideas? thanks!

It doesn't matter if it has surface rust either as it will be restored, and it cannot be the flapper style air cleaners (that didn't come with the 98's)

You need to find an air cleaner from a 98 or a Cutlass. The Delta 88s used a 2 barrel carburetor.

Wayal... you could get a two-barrel 455 in a Delta 88 thru 1971, but there were firebreathing four-barrel versions available too, up to 390 horsepower.

Nov 1973 parts book indicates all 1970-72 4 barrel aircleaners except Cutlass with OAI or Toronado are the same. Means it can come from a Ninety Eight, Delta 88 or Cutlass, either 350 or 455 equipped. That opens up your search considerably. P/N 6487336.

The snout on this aircleaner points to the passenger side of the car and incorporates a ThermAC flapper valve and a hot air tube from exhaust manifold to aircleaner snout.

Reproduction decals are available thru several sources.

1970 aircleaner is semi-gloss black. Lid decal is silver "OLDSMOBILE ROCKET 455" and the "Keep your GM car all GM" decal is positioned at the front side of the pan.

Here's a generic picture from the web to give you an idea how underhood should look.

I think the air cleaner in 1970 was black. Hopefully someone can verify that. My OE air cleaner was black for 1971.

You're quicker on the draw.

If the car has AC shouldn't the air cleaner point to the driver's side?

No. Nothing wrong w/the pic shown and snorkel orientation. The hot air pipe and shroud was/is on the P side exhaust manifold....so the snorkel will also point that way. AC car or Non-AC car....doesn't matter. You can look at an Assembly Manual for this info.

1970 Olds Regency 98 455 air cleaner

Where are you located? I just unloaded a bunch of factory air cleaners from a container that I shipped to our new home/shop. If interested, email me for pics, etc.: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob.
