Adding photos to PM's

Adding photos to PM's
I used to be able to use the mountains icon and put photos in PM's just like I do in threads. But since an update several years ago I haven't been able to do that. For the most part this hasn't been a issue as I just ask the person wanting pictures to email me and I'd reply with photos. But if its still possible I need to figure this out. Can someone tell me the trick to doing it? John

I heard back from IB this morning:
"This has never been possible, however it actually is something we are working on. Hoping to roll this out in Q1 2023! If you want to let people know their voices have been heard and that to expect news next year that would be great."

Chris - Are you trying to PM from a mobile device or a desktop PC?

Chris - Additionally, please note:
I've successfully inserted an image into a PM from my desktop PC and I have not tried yet on my mobile device (iPhone). If the Paper Clip is NOT highlighted (this is a guess), it may be the manner in which the IB developer wrote or invoked the ability to insert an image into a PM may very well have a dependency on one icon versus the other (Mountain or Paper Clip). As I noted (above) the ability to post any image and the GUI you actually see, depends on whether your handheld device is set to 'View Full Website' or 'View Mobile Site'. These two settings are located on your phone &/or mobile device. They are different between Android and iPhone (even different versions of the same phone depending on s/w version. Tablets (depending on size and mfr.) often have a setting which facilitates 'View Full Website' or 'View Mobile Site'. The basic difference is this: View Full Website 'attempts' to create a GUI as it would be seen on a desktop PC (in full website mode); whereas, 'View Mobile Site' is normally "optimized" for mobile devices. There are minor caveats to this, but check your settings on the device you're using.
EDIT: "If" you can in fact see the Paper Clip, but it is not "highlighted" (when trying to upload an image in a PM), that suggests to me the IB developer has written the code for the Mountain icon and not the Paper Clip icon (just a SWAG).
You can post pictures/images via the Paper Clip icon (pictured below) or the Mountain Image icon (pictured below). You may or you may not see the Paper Clip icon depending on whether you are viewing this site from a hand-held device in 'View Full Website', 'View Mobile Site' mode, or using the 'Go Advanced' feature. The following instructions apply to both icons.

I always use the mountain icon for uploading from my pc and right click on copy pictures and videos (URL) off the interwebs and past directly in threads. I don't do hardly anything but type posts off my Iphone, too fat fingered to mess with that.

When I first joined CO (2018) & developed the How To Upload Photos sticky, the ability to copy/paste from another website into a thread/post was not available. I tested this several times. The only outliers were the Moderators did have copy/paste ability - regular members did not. I validated this several times over a couple years. I have just (now) re-evaluated the copy/paste feature; and, low & behold - copy/paste is now available to regular members. The image (below) I simply did as you (Eric) - copy/paste from another website directly into this post. That is FANTASTIC. I'm going to need to update the How To Upload Photos sticky. This is really good news as I know other members had this ability years ago, complained they could no longer do it, and now it's back. I think IB is putting more time into upgrading the site.
