Cool What part number and how to replace

Hi,

I have an Olds Cutlass 71 and last summer I've noticed that it lost some transmission oil.
In another thread
https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...rt-number.html
I have found a partnumber for the O-seal and I was able to order it even for europe.

Now I've noticed that the olds is having another leak on the transmission and I'm looking for another partnumber.
I've attached some pictures of the seal and I was wondering if somebody could tell me the name and the serial number of that.

Regards

Well what I see is the front U-joint with trans fluid on it. That means the rear seal on the trans is leaking.
What transmission do you have?

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response. It's an automatic transmission. It's indeed the rear seal that is leaking.

Greetings

If you have a TH400 you will need Fel Pro part number 7038SA
If you have a TH350 you will need Fel Pro part number 9613S

These part numbers are these numbers from Rock Auto? Since the company in Europe were I can order these parts are able to get parts from Rock Auto and AC Delco.

I see on the Fel pro website that these parts are for manual transmissions. Is that correct?

They fit multiple applications. Don't worry about the description.

Go to rock auto and then to the part number search at the top of the page, type in the number and then choose Timken for the manufacturer and they both come up.

Hi,

A while ago a replaced the rear seal from the U-joint. Now it's starting to get summer here in Belgium and I took the Cutlass for a drive.
When taking it out from the garage I saw again gearbox oil on the floor. When I've put him on the working bridge I saw oil on the same place.

To be sure that the seal was fitted correctly I've cleaned it and checked the car again after some days. Again same thing, oil on the U-joint BUT no oil on the connection from the U to the gearbox (see picture) also don't know what the name is in English.

Where does the oil come from? I don't remember seeing a hole in the U-joint itself were oil can come trough to the bolds.

Any guess??

Regards

The only thing I can think of would be the yoke needs to be replaced. Did it look to be scared at all when you replaced the seal?

Hi,

Can you tell me what the yoke is? What part is that?
The seal did not look broken of damaged at all. So I'm not very sure that this was the problem. But replacing it did certainly not harm it.

Greetings

The yoke is the part that the U-Joint is attached to that slides into the back of the transmission.

Is the U-joint not a complete part? Since I think it might not be easy to replace the yoke on the U-joint.

Do you have by any guess a part number of that?

If you look at the driveshaft the U-joint connects the driveshaft to the yoke at the transmission. At the rear the U-joint is held to the rear end with 2 U-bolts.
