Going to try to load a couple pics "Before and After" of my car...hope it works.
The first is from 2014 with some old cast aluminum 14'
The second is from last weekend with the staggered 17's from YearOne and Nitto's...
The car had the same paint...it's just a different time of day. You can see how much the live oak in my neighbors yard has grown in 8 years...lol!

After re-visiting this thread and looking at current available rear tire sizes, the choices are sparse. 275/45r17 doesn't exist. 275/50r17 only has a drag radial and Nitto 555. I prefer the bigger tire on the back to fill up the fender gap.
There are still a lot of choices in 275/40r17. (Which is a little short IMHO 25.68")

You're right, Nitto may be your only choice for a tall performance 17" tire in the back. You could run a 275/50/17 which is 27.8 tall, on the rear 9" rim. Then use a 245/45 or 255/45 on an 8" rim up front.

Painted/powder coated semi gloss
Has anyone powder coated the inside of a set of these rims yet? Can you powder coat over the chrome or just the aluminum rims? Interesting in hearing if anyone has played around with this with semi gloss black.

I am leaning toward the chrome staggered 8/9 SSII hoping for some kind of black Friday sale,
I think the chrome will pop against the Ebony black I plan on using.
Does anyone happen to have pics of SSIIchrome on black?
I dislike the rubber band look but tire options are very limited looking to fill the wheel wells appropriately.
A little larger than 26 wouldn't hurt either
Any more choices since the post above about a year ago?

I don't really like the rubber band look either and would have gone with the 275/50R17's (rear)- 255/50R17's (front) as well, but my 2.73 gears with 2004r nudged me to the 45's/40's. When I buy new tires I think I'll get the 50's.

I see others using 275/50/17 (27.8") rear and 255/50/17 front. (27")
I read something about oversteer with two different-sized tires. Is this the case or .8 is nothing to worry about
I like the larger sidewall

I've never heard anything about oversteer due to a taller rear tire. I have heard of understeer from a much wider rear tire, caused by more traction in the rear than up front.
That said, I highly doubt 0.8" would make any noticeable difference unless the rest of the chassis/suspension was totally dialed in and you were pushing it to the limits on a regular basis.

Love the silver versions of these wheels. They offer 2 or 3 different back spacing. I didn’t see anyone mention what back spacing they used.
I’d be putting these on a 1966 442. I also like the “50” series tires with slightly larger sidewalls. A lot of installs above shown on 70’s cars, anyone know if the 66 body style have less or more clearance the 72 body style?

Getting ready to pull the trigger on a set of chromes SSII
Year one has the staggered and 8-inch set at the same price 1,369.93
Jeggs has the staggered at 1,512
But has a coupon that brings it down to 1362.
Jeggs has the 8" inch at 1369. but the coupon brings it down to 1269
Decisions Decisions.
Thoughts/opinions welcome

I have the staggered set on mine, 245-45-17 on front and 275-40-17 out back, I went with Wilwood brakes that were supposed to fit a 15" wheel in case I wanted to go a different direction at some point, I don't have any clearance issues with this combination.

They will be going on my 70 cutlass convertible.
I think I am going with 275/50/17 (27.8") rear and 255/50/17 front. (27"). as shown above.
I have a 3.55 rear and I like the larger sidewalls so I think I am fine with the larger diameter tires and will save a few RPMs on the highway
Looking for suggestions but think the Nittos is what I am going with.

Those tire sizes are the same ones I was thinking about, except I may stay 245 wide up front.
I think Nittos had the combination I was looking at, any other sizes I was having to mix brands.
I like the Nittos so no problem there.

I love the chrome version too!
I am thinking of doing the car in black again, but with gold Olds stripes. I would like to somehow add some gold accenting in the wheels sorta like the 80s 442s to match.
Those are going to look great!

Anybody paint the centers of the chromed version body color? Love to see a pic and description of what you did to prep the chrome to have paint adhere. Also, does anyone know if these will clear LS1 Camaro brakes?

I dig it.

Backspacing
I searched the thread and didn't see what backspacing people were getting? Looking to use a tire of 255/50-17 so i think I should be getting an 8 inch rim for that tire size? just wondering if I need a 4.5" backspace or the zero offset that is offered. Thanks
