Guess This Hub Cap (?)
Does anyone know what year and what Olds this hub cap came off of? That looks like the same center decal as was used on the SS3's, so that may narrow it down to early 70's late 80's.
Probably one of the big cars, I'm not thinking it's off a Cutlass. I don't have the hub cap, just a photo of it.

Truth be told, it already is one. I will be retiring this year and this hub cap will now be an annual award presented in my name. Quite an honor I do say. Although I think they should make it into a clock, don't you think? I've seen those.
I've never owned a 66 Cutlass but no matter, it's the thought that counts.

Yep 66 F85 Cutlass and wagon. Got the RPO code somewhere.P something...
Ive been a collector since before I could drive, when these were new.
I have a hubcap disease. I concentrate on the mid 60s early 70s cast center stainless rimed caps. The heavy ones.
Most of what I have today is NOS, near NOS or restored. I've learned how to remove the dents from the stainless outer rim on the Chevy P02, Buick SD/V4 caps. Amazing how fragile they are. Then add in a pimple faced tire jockey with a ball peen hammer, duh.
How many Olds N93 and Buick M9 cast caps were damaged by a dumb *** trying to pry them off like a regular hubcap not realizing they are bolted on and you need to remove the center cap to access the lug nuts.
To me these caps are art. Im trying to figure out how to make a display in the man cave.
Anyone have interesting caps with the cast centers, fins turbines or spinners I'm always lookin for nice rust, pit, dent free examples.
Im currently on the hunt for 66 Buick Riviera Super Deluxe/V4 caps with the 2 bar spinner. Seen in the upper left on the first pic. Similar to the Vette P02s
Heres a small sample of the sickness...

66 GS Riv is in my top 5 cars to own.
Gun Metal, Midnight Blue or Plum with the deluxe bucket interior of course.
The rare MZ code GS dual quad wouldn't suck.
67 Riv also cool. 430 engine.
This example is a 66 midnight blue buck skin gut. Concealed headlamps! Sexy!

Mine was plum metallic. Plum interior. Single four barrel. One of the nicest cars I owned. Had the split bench with the bucket seat backs. I Loved that car. It was my ex wife's grandfather's car. He did the interior and the paint. That car was beautiful. 66-67 Riviera's are one of the sexiest body styles that came out of General Motors.

My thoughts have always been hubcaps are what is now referred to as dog dish that just cover the center of the wheel and wheel covers cover the entire wheel. If you are happy calling them what your dad called them, that is what you should call them.

Gang,
This is a 1966-only 14” “turbine” hubcap which was slotted between the dog dish poverty caps & the faux-wire wheels available for both the big (88/Starfire/98) and “little” cars (Cutlass/442/Vista Cruiser). In 1966 all Oldsmobile cars were released with 14x6” wheels. The big cars got 5x5 bolt pattern, the “little” cars got 4.75”x5 (if I recall correctly…). But these caps fit everything they made that year. Since Olds could charge for options…
You could vary the tire size from standard to oversize, but 14x6 was it for wheel size (Joe P, please correct me if I’m off base).
In my quest for latter day better performance on my big cars I’ve gone to 15x8 wheels & ginned-up 1049b Chevy 15” fake wire hubcaps with ‘66 Olds Tri-bar spinners. The fake wire hubcaps don’t fit under a ‘66 98’s fender skirts, but they look great on a ‘66 Starfire. It’d take a real expert to catch the fake. And I’d cop to it in an instant. They squeak a bit, but the look is right to me.
For the 98 with the skirts, I went with 1971 15” hubcaps. They don’t look right, but I can live with them. Since, well, I have for 25 years or so…
For anyone who wants to go down the rabbit-hole, look under my username for wheel & tire adventures. In case you can’t sleep…
Cheers

BTW - my wife misses these hubcaps. They were just subtle enough and period enough to make her (not a car person) appreciate them.
She calls the Tri-Bar spinners “dog killers”.

My 66 Riviera GS with two blade Hub Caps was beautiful. People wanting to say OH those are wheel cover whatevers. There wasn't one person as we grew up up that called them wheelcovers because they only covered thd hub. Ever. That's a term from this restoration world.
Honestly I thought my 66 Riviera GS looked better with the hubcaps than the rallye wheels.
