Help estate value 1970 442 valuation
#41
Hey Everyone! Posting another update of findings. I found the vin on the engine and appears to match. the last two digits are barely visible still but appear to be a 72. The transmission tag was painted over, but still can make out a PX-69. I believe that indicates a firebird TH400?
No buildsheet to be found to figure out what options where originally included with the car.
If i have it correct... we have a 1970 442 with a 455 with F headers and vin matching engine block and a W27 rear end. (Do the F headers and matching vin indicate it was originally a W30 option car? or still can't determine without the buildsheet?)
I will be listing in the classified shortly and local Facebook marketplace. Thinking starting price of $25k assuming some haggling. Is this a realistic price?
Thank you everyone for helping me decipher what he was building!

E heads are 403686....
Not to be the naysayer but there are many things on this car that would lead me to believe it's a dolled up 442 and not a W30

Just to clarify:
Casting number W-27 rear: 231042
Casting number Iron Type O: 402227
E head Casting Number: 403686
F head Casting Number: 404438
A picture of the Trim Tag / Cowl Tag would be helpful

Is the casting number broken into two 3 digits? looks like 403686 casting number on the heads. And after watching some videos of W27 rears, i doubt this is a real w27 as well.
So we have a car with not much value. haha
Any input on a starting price? thanks!

Assuming the rear end is not a w27 (see if a magnet sticks to any of the aluminum colored parts) and the F heads are really E heads, i would start the ask at 12-15k, or for a quicker sale 8-12k.
The car looks nice, as you noted its not a resto mod or a restoration. It does still have many sought after parts/options, the rear wing, the dual gate, the 70 onlysport mirrors, the hood may be an original OAI.
i think if the car was together and was a running driver it would bring 20-25k in real world ( not tv auction) pricing.

$25k is a reasonable place to start, in this market it could even get bid up....lol

No not at all Mike. We need the eagle eyes. I still don't see the grind, but the 6 digit cast numbers say it all.
I edited my responses in post #22 to enhance accurate future searches.
Good eyes, everyone...Mike, Stefano. as a group I'm always impressed at our cumulative knowledge bank and lack of cockiness.
If this car is as clean as it appears to be it's a $20-25K car all day. Body, paint, and chassis are more or less done. That's 25K all day.
Someone will have a nice start to a nice show/n go/driver/quarter-miler.

This post needs to be in the General Discussion forum. It is lost here.
Do you know what we mean by showing the body tag? Pop the hood. Go to the right by the wiper arm. Up towards the windshield. Black plate. Lots of numbers. That will answer a lot of questions. Don't let some flipper screw you. If your car is factory Nugget Gold that is a huge plus. Plenty of knowledgable Olds people will take advantage of what you might not know. Sad reality of today's world.

It's probably been sold. It was on Fakebook yesterday morning for 10K and a few hrs. later for 15. It was called out for having the leg ground off the E's and painted to look like a W-27 rear.
It does have nice paint from what I could see. I almost contacted him yesterday morning and even talked to the wife about it, lol. Went back to the ad and saw the 15 and yeah, no.
