another german

Hi Folks !
Since i was a young boy playing with my matchboxcars and watching films i am totally infected with the virus called " V8 " but several jears had gone to own a real one .
First car was a chevy G20 20 jears ago .Than for a long time nothing.
Three years ago i bougth a 74 delta 88 , i have driven it without any problems .i put new headers with double exhaust only with glasspack but it was to "noisy" so i bougth two flowmaster´s but no idea what sound they have (not inst. jet) .But now i have changed every gasket , washer , sealing- ect.because all liquids leaked out of it(TH400 as well) .I did a carb.-overhaul, .A rear break job , by the way a hei ignition ,rear quater window roller and a new set of rubbers allaround (dors-roof-tires and so on).The only thing that i am waiting for(about 5 weeks) is a new timing chain for the 455 engine. I am ..;,&%$-"!?!'*+#>@/=`? . I think i dont have to explane this.
my other car is a 50 buick sedanette (project)
so thats it for the moment
enjoy your day and make somebody happy!

Gotcha

So how has your day been?

Do you live in Germany?

Hang in there. We have some good guys on board who either live there/have been stationed there [and or speak German]

sins a week i have finished my big seal and retaining job on my 455 engine and th-400 .But best effect i have with the overhaul of the carburator.Finaly i have had to wait 7 weeks for a new timingchain because my local dealer make a mistake, so i ordered one on e-bay-us.
Now i have a other problem with my convertible-Top.
jesterday when i closed it i hear a cracking-crunchy noise but it closed perfectly. Today i opend it without any trouble but in the evening it wouldend closed -.It stoped in the halve way only with help and pulling the Top and playing with the swich it closed slowly .
Any idea out there??
maybe one cable is broken ..
anybody can tell me how to close the top manual (emergency-close)-
Is there a mecanism to unlock the motor ??
Saludos Markus

Hallo
Gut zu wissen dass es noch andere Deutsche Oldsmobile-Enthusiasten gibt. Vielleicht sieht man sich ja mal auf einem Treffen, wenn ich irgendwann einmal fertig werden sollte^^.

I bet it was a real enjoyment to drive the car after that carburetor rebuild. My '77 Cutlass needs a carburetor rebuild very badly and I know if I get it done the car will be much more enjoyable to drive. About the top motor, I wish I could help you but can't, never owned a convertible or worked on one.

I got it !!!
The top work with drive cables . And i think the motor no stops when the top is totally open or closed ,--- so one of the cable was swirled up like a pigtail and it was bend . I have orderd new ones . I hope this will solve my prob´s.

Is there a switch or something that is supposed to stop the motor to prevent damage? Never worked on a convert so just wondering.

The switch on the dash on mine is like a rocker switch , push on the top it goes up , on the bottom it goes down. The switch stops contact when you take your finger off it so I have to hold the switch down until it's totally up or down.

If you mean a limit switch to prevent the motor from running after it has reached "its limit", the answer is no on my 75. I have had the misfortune of the switch sticking after I put the top up FOR 30 MIN OF DRIVING before I figured out from all the creaking, and popping noises in the speakers (breaker blowing and resetting, frame creaking) Luckily I did no damamge.

But the answer is no, there is NO limit switch.

Oh, ok then. The answer on your car is no limit switch (thanks jeffery for help with the correct term) but with your dash switch being a momentary type it should dis-engage when you release the rocker. If it is not then you may have a bad switch.

Does your topmoter works with oilpresure?
I am also repairing my olds 88 conv of 69'
It has a motor with 2 hoses that are conecting 2 hydraulic coil .

I hoped that the coil s are at maximum if top is totaly op en of closed

I never tried it becouse the former owner of the car had lost the switch and i'm looking for somthing it works on up-neutral-down and i must vind a spot to fit in.
becouse i think the former owner had puld the switch out and a radio in.

on the dash i can read up and down next to a hole to fit the radio.

And if they stop with a cable where is it mounted on? after painting i put a new top on and it is stupid to damage it when i open the top

your 69 should have a "rocker" switch ... momentary on - off - momentary on

any rocker would do, but it should not be too hard to find the switch (it might be the same for power antenna, station wagon rear glass)

might even be the same for cutlass and large cars
