If you're near Toronto then there's a gas tank repair shop called Gas Tank Renew in Rexdale Ontario that's been lookin' after the Old car Hobbiest for the last twenty years or so. He's in the phone book but no Web page that I'm aware of.

Is there a place that offers new tanks for these models though?

Lookin' to answer part of the ???
I realize Lucky Luke is in the Czech Republic but Red Delta isn't so I posted that. I've been searching for new gas tanks for several years and cross referencing part numbers of other cars that were similar to what I needed but have never found new ones being re-stamped. This is why I posted Gas Tank Renew but you have to have a pretty good tank to start with or sometimes his sealants just won't bond well enough and he'll turn you away.

There are NO repro tanks for these cars. Have yours repaired or look for someone parting a similar car. I believe this is an Olds only part and 65 and 66 should be the same. I am not sure about later years. You could try some on line jukyards as well.

I guess another option is to slap in a fuel cell, or have one made to similar dimensions. I can't imagine that would be cheap either.
My tank is ok, but it's never been cleaned out. I figure I'm going to have to do it eventually. I appereciate the info chequenman.

Fuel Tank For 1965 & 1966 88's
Lucky Luke,
I have the same issue and have found that Fuel/Gas Tanks for 1965 and 1966 Oldsmobile 88's, which is a B Body Car, are generally not available and finding one at this point after 47 and 48 years in a salvage yard would be very difficult; however, fuel/gas tanks for 1965 and 1966 Oldsmobile Cutlasses including 4-4-2 and F-85 (A Body Cars) and Chevrolet Impalas (also a B Body car) are readily available.
The shape and sizes of the fuel/gas tanks for the two body styles were almost if not exactly the same and I think the only differences among them are for the angles, bends, and lengths of the filler necks. I have the tank pulled out of my Delta 88 Holiday Sport Coupe (it is in sorry shape) and have measured it. It's dimensions compare with the dimensions for the both the A Body Cutlass and the B Body Chevrolet Impala tanks. The part number for the Cutlass A Body fuel/gas tank is GM37G and the part number for the Chevrolet Impala B Body fuel/gas tank is GM37C. I priced the GM37G and they cost anywhere from $130.00 to $230.00 U.S. plus shipping and are available by special order. The GM37C is priced about the same.
My tank, as pulled from the car, measures 37.25"/94.615cm x 30"/76.2cm x 6.75"/17.145cm with a 13.5"/34.29cm filler neck that has an upward bend in it (Note: The 30"/76.2cm dimension that I measured does not include the 1"/2.54cm seam around the perimeter of the tank). The specifications for the both the GM37G and GM37C fuel/gas tanks are 37.25"/94.615cm x 30"/76.2cm x 6.75"/17.145cm with slightly different and shorter filler necks (the lengths were not specified). So it appears the Olds Cutlass and Chevrolet Impala fuel/Gas tanks are a match and will easily fit into an Olds 88 except that the filler neck would have to be extended to reach to the back of the license plate, which likely could be easily done. These dimensions would give you a fuel/gas tank capacity of 32.65 gallons/123.6 liters if the tanks were rectangular but they are tapered so it appears that they are also a 25 gallon/94.6 liter tank.
Be aware that there are versions of these fuel/gas tanks that come with an internal, electric fuel pump for cars that have been converted to fuel injection. The part number for these is GM37GFI or GM37CFI and they cost from $320.00 to $720.00, the “FI” being for fuel injection.
Some websites that have these tanks for sale (shown for the GM37G) are: http://www.rockauto.com ($132.79), http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/se...ake=Oldsmobile ($228.99 w/lifetime warranty), and http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...309/prd309.htm ($150.00). The last website also sells new GM 1964-67 fuel/gas tank straps @ $30.00 U.S. each.
Having said all of that, there are also places that will refurbish your old tank even if it is in sorry shape like mine. One such place in the U.S. is Moyer Fuel Tank Renu in Greensburg, Pennsylvania: http://www.gas-tank.com/, (800) 328-9550, moyer@westol.com. I called them and they quoted a price of around $400.00 U.S. but I have not gotten around to sending them the tank. Check out their website, the before and after pictures they show are telling. Hopefully, you may be able to find an equivalent shop in the Czech Republic or in somewhere within Europe.
Good luck,

Fuel Tank For 1965 & 1966 88's
chequenman,
True, the posts are over three years old but I had the problem just recently and was doing the research to find the information I did find. In the course of that research I came across this thread and decided to post the information so others would have it available. In fact, I joined Classic Oldsmobile so I could make the post and it was my first. I would say it's a good bet there are other 65/66 88 B-Body fuel tanks in need of replacement out there.
ent72olds,
You're welcome.
Smooth running,
Oldsmaru44x2

so i recently took this advice for my 66 dynamic 88 convertible...like a moron i didnt measure my tank. ordered the gm37g from Carid...they covered shipping 250 to my door. took a week to get. i dropped my old tank and god damn if the new tank is much too wide. not sure if the ragtops use different tanks or what. Carid will take return but id have to pay freight shipping back at 225 bucks...making a whopping 25 bucks for my return. needless to say I am stuck with a new tank i cant use. if anyone is looking to buy a brand new spectrum GM37c tank and lives in CT or will pay for shipping I will give you a deal. Triple check your dimensions before ordering a new tank unlike me the new tank is about 8" to wide fyi. any interests in this tank email me at blkmonday@aol.com.....so to the machine shop I go to get the old tank hot tanked and sealed......ugh
