Thanks for the comments Pettrix. I believe I bought the upper and lower radiator hose as a set from Inline Tube. Check out this link: 68-69-70-71-72 442 W-30 W-31 UPPER & LOWER RADIATOR HOSE CORRECT SHAPE 2pc NOS | eBay

How's that TKX making out with the torque? Sounds like your dyno numbers would be putting it at the edge of it's rated capability?

Great looking build, and appreciate the detailed updates in your thread.

Thanks. All is well so far. I finally got the tuning close to where I want it. I have 1,000 miles on it now and all is good. Trans shifts easily and has been working awesome. I've been breaking everything in with a pretty heavy foot. So far....no complaints.

Yes I am. My engine was initially tested with a race-built Q-Jet carb. As part of my restoration, I installed the Holley Quadra-Jet EFI system complete with inboard pump and the Hyperspark components for timing control. I have since swapped out that system and made several changes to the entire fuel system and am now running the 4150 SNIPER unit. The other system ran good but was not quite right for my application. I was thinking of creating another thread to follow with all my lessons learned from that journey. There's lots to be learned when converting these old cars and engines to the late model technologies.

Yeah I will probably start one soon and will let you know. How far along are you on your SNIPER install? We can also PM each other and I can provide more info. I also have a good tune that I made which might be helpful at least as a starting point depending on your engine specifics.

Thanks, I just sent a data log to Holley, I’m waiting to hear any suggestions the guys might have. I’ll be in touch soon.
Rocket on!

Thanks to all for their kind comments.

Yesterday I posted an update on my fuel system and changes that I've made recently. If there are people contemplating an EFI upgrade on a factory manifold or using a dead-headed fuel pump....it's a good read. It also outlines how to make the OAI air cleaner work and appear stock on an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold.

Here is that post: Successful OAI Hood/Air Cleaner Assembly with Performer Intake and Holley SNIPER - ClassicOldsmobile.com

Looks stunning. I might have missed it, but where did you get your front bumper? The fit looks great. Is it repop or a rechromed original. I am thinking of replacing the front bumper on my vista because the fit is not very good.
thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom. Thanks! I appreciate it. I purchased both bumpers along with a host of other parts from Auto Body Specialties. I also like the fit of the bumpers. Here is their web address: http://autobodyspecialt.com/

Let me know if I can ever be of any help.....

Dave,

I can say that your car looks even more impressive in person.

Pictures don’t do it justice.

Thanks so much for your kind comments. The car is definitely a looker. The paint is like glass and highlights the deep metallic flake in the sun. At the car shows and car gatherings....people immediately come up to it and comment. Some want to know what kind of car it is and others who know all about 442s just want to chat about the build and the color choices. It's fun to drive and I get allot of thumbs-up and smiles while on the road.

Thanks again. It's been a fun project and very rewarding to say the least.

Gorgeous car! Nicely done!

Any issues with the Sniper EFI?
How much of a difference between carb vs EFI have you noticed?

Followed this since I joined, beautiful car, 71 is my favorite. Watched the video and told my wife how I love the sound of these old cars, and this came up after watching it so I took a screen shot. I could probably fall asleep listening to an old V8 idling!

I know people who also have issues with the Sniper and 90% of the issues is due to the fact the ECU is located inside the throttle body where it is subjected to heat and RFI. Holley Terminator X and Dominator have separate ECU's like modern cars have and that eliminates the issue the Sniper has.

Others have Sniper and it runs okay. No doubt the Terminator and Dominator are the best of the Holley EFI systems. Sniper can work but when it doesn't, it becomes a constant headache.

Hey Pettrix-----the car has come a long way since I dyno'd it with the carb at the engine builder's. I had switched to the SNIPER Q-Jet and hated it along with the fuel pump. Since I switched out the manifold, the entire fuel system, and the SNIPER...it runs awesome now. I love the consistent performance now way more than a carb. I fought with carb issues on my Chevelle for awhile before I went to this same SNIPER on that restoration. I have no desire to go back and fight with carbs at high altitude. The performance is rock steady and consistent!

Thanks 68 Cutlass....I love it too and am partial to the 71s myself. I had one in high school and always wanted to get another one and do the things to it that I could never afford as a teenager making $3.15/hour. The old cars are just the bomb!

Yeah I have installed lots of SNIPER systems and have fixed allot of installation issues from others. The ones that I have installed have run great out of the box for the most part if you follow the instructions and know what you're doing. I'm very happy with the performance for what the system is. I just installed 3 more of them in the last two weeks for others and they ran great when they left my shop. If you understand their weaknesses and tune them correctly to start....I think they are a great carb replacement...IMHO.

akspeedy----maybe I can help with your SNIPER issues. I've installed and fixed a ton of them for others. Send me a PM and let's see if I can shed any light on your issues.

I work on other (mostly GM) cars on the side and this was one I was working on. This is a Burt Reynolds signed TA that I have been working on for a customer. I replaced the entire wiring harness that someone else had screwed up as well as doing allot of cleanup to the car. People bring their cars to me once others have messed them up royal. Lol

My wife thinks if I continue to fix the ones that others destroy...it keeps me from buying more for myself and enhancing my collection.

Thank you so much. I had one right out of high school and loved it but had to sell to move and get my adult life kick started. 🙃

Thanks! I appreciate it. The Billet Specialties wheels look good and somewhat similar to the Olds wheels. I get allot of people that come up and look at them at the car gatherings. The Olds stickers on the center caps help with the intrigue as well.
