1968 Olds 98 convertible top operation
In the last 2 weeks when the temp outside was about 40 deg F., I pulled the car outside the garage and tried to lower the top. The top moved about a foot and then stalled. You could hear the motor whining. When I reversed the switch it came back to its closed position. I had to wait some time till the temp outside warmed up for the top to open and close. Is this normal when the fluid is cold, or does the fluid need to be topped up, or does the fluid need to be changed.

GM used to furnish a glovebox manual specifically for convertible top care and operation. Seems I've read in those not to attempt operating the top below 40°.
I cannot get this phone to post an image but search 1968 GM convertible top manual and you'll see what I'm talking about. If one didn't come with the car you should get one. I think Parts Place has them reprinted.
