Wow, that's a good one. The 38669 part is confusing and it appears to be missing a number. That number should match the first 6 digits of your VIN but I would say that it doesn't! The 7th digit of your VIN should be an "M", followed by 6 numbers.

What model and body type is your car and what are the first 6 digits of your VIN?

ST 69 = style/model year = 1969

38669 - we'll leave that for later.

LAN = assembly plant = Lansing MI

398688 BDY = body number (no relation at all to your VIN)

TR 044 = interior color and front seat type = ? Could be gold with a split bench seat? Makes me think this is not an A body car.

61 H PNT = lower and upper body colors = sable for the body with a gold vinyl top

05D = time build code = fifth month (May), 4th week of that month, 1969.

Oh, no - I must be sick. This woke me up at 3AM! The "38669" is correct - I thought a number was missing but it is not, and it should match the first FIVE numbers of your VIN.

3 = GM division = Oldsmobile

86 = model series = Ninety-Eight

69 = body type = Luxury Sedan

I still don't know what the trim number (TR 044) means as I don't have much of any 98 info but someone else will.

Thanks GAO. I took a wild stab at it and somehow came close but I just didn't know for sure. That's what I like about this site - someone always knows the right answer! You can't beat that!

Best Regards,
