1967 CS Holiday Coupe

The original HO 330 in my 67 CS Holiday Coupe has started to smoke (I suspect rings but haven’t compression tested it yet). Anyway, I have a Chevy 350 block that I would like to build up as a 383 stroker to about 450hp. My current setup is original olds 330 with a 2sp Jetaway trans. What kind of mess would I be getting into to drop a Chevy 350 and 4sp auto into this car? What would you suggest for a 4sp auto trans?

Thanks!

If you have to build an engine anyway why not do the 330 instead of turning your Oldsmobile into a Chevelle?

That said just use Chevelle SBC frame pads and modify wiring and other stuff to adapt it to Chevrolet.

A 700 is not going to live behind 450hp without mods. Simple to fix but may not be cheap.

I am strongly leaning towards stroking the original 330 and putting a 200r4 behind it. However, I could continue driving (with a little smoke) if I built up the 350. Just weighing options.

Thanks!

You absolutely did, but for some reason I had not seen those last few posts. Thanks for pointing me back to it.

Seems to me like the "stroker engine" is just a brag word in engine performance. Just build your engine to good performance specs and you will be money ahead.

Very true, I already have 1 stupid fast car that I have to be careful with to avoid the local constabulary. I just want to use the Cutlass as a cruiser and daily driver. My daily commute has a max speed of 45 and while I like to stick my foot in it, I don’t need a speed demon. So, what I really want is a good, non smoking, motor with a nice throaty exhaust and I think rebuilding the 330 with better heads is the right direction for me.

Smoke

I have found in my 38 years of Oldsmobile they most often smoke from broke or totally gone valve stem seals. Not often is it rings. It can happen though.
